The canonization process of Carlo Acutis requires two miracles and faith, with his canonization expected in 2025
Carlo Acutis, an Italian youngster who will become the first millennial saint and the first to have played video games, is scheduled to be canonized by the Catholic Church. Acutis was raised as a Catholic after moving to Milan, Italy, with his family after being born in London in 1991. He was well-known for being an avid player of Mario, Halo, and Pokemon video games. His mother says he cut back on his gaming to one hour a week because he was worried about becoming addicted. Acutis has spent a number of years going through the canonization process, which normally calls for a minimum of two miracles and further proof of a life lived in faith.
Just six years after his passing, in 2012, the canonization process was initiated. In 2020, he was beatified (pronounced "Blessed") after being deemed "Venerable" in 2018. One miracle ascribed to him was acknowledged by the Catholic Church; it concerned a Brazilian kid whose mother asked for Acutis' intercession and the boy, who had a serious birth problem, recovered. Since then, Acutis has been linked to a second miracle involving a child from Costa Rica who recovered from a brain injury after her mother prayed at his tomb.
In 2025, Acutis is expected to be declared a saint and given the title of canonization. This is because most are canonized tens or even hundreds of years after their passing because to the difficulties of the process and the time it often takes. The youthful age of Acutis and his popularity among younger Catholics may aid the Church in reaching out to younger people and digital natives.
