The Rubik's Cube Impossible will baffle even the most seasoned solvers
If crawling out of bed, showering, and getting dressed every morning is already a significant daily challenge for you, you'll want to avoid a new Japanese variant of the iconic Rubik's Cube that makes lining up the colored squares significantly more difficult because the squares constantly change color.
When you successfully solve a Rubik's Cube, you experience a tremendous amount of self-satisfaction, but that hours-long effort begins to feel less spectacular when you learn that the current world record for solving a scrambled cube is only 3.47 seconds. It seems like only a half-human-half-cyborg brain could solve the puzzle that quickly. However, there are dependable Rubik's Cube tactics that merely need you to learn and perfect a set of certain patterns and motions.
However, those tactics need knowing the precise colors of the squares on each side of the cube, which is why the new Rubik's Cube Impossible may live true to its moniker for practically everyone. MegaHouse, a subsidiary of Bandai Namco that manufactures Rubik's Cubes on behalf of Spin Master in Japan, designed the enhanced puzzle, which includes colored squares that change color based on the angle from which they are seen. Making matters more difficult is the fact that not every square on the cube performs the color-changing trick.
This promotional film, according to SoraNews24, showed a duo of speed cubers—both capable of solving a conventional Rubik's Cube in roughly a minute—who were challenged to solve the Rubik's Cube Impossible. One ultimately gave up altogether, whilst the other accomplished the impossible and solved it, albeit it took approximately three hours.
The Rubik's Cube Impossible is now advertised on the MegaHouse website for around $25 (3,080 yen), and while the site claims a Spring 2022 release date, it doesn't appear to be ready for purchase just yet—but why would anybody want to curse oneself with such a creation in the first place?
