The main villain in Black Adam almost looked completely different
The Intergang was one of Black Adam's opponents, but its third act stunned several fans when it revealed its true DC villain, Sabbac. Based on fresh concept drawings, it appears that Black Adam's fearsome antagonist nearly looked different.
Sabbac was previously buried throughout the promotion for Black Adam, with the major focus being the Justice Society of America's pursuit of the titular anti-hero. Official movie merchandising eventually unveiled the design of the DC villain, with an action figure offering the finest look yet at Sabbac.
Now, official new concept art from Black Adam has unveiled a new Sabbac design.
Concept Art Reveals Sabbac's Unique Design
Christian Scheurer, a Black Adam concept artist, contributed unused Sabbac character drawings.
Scheurer claimed Sabbac was about 26 feet tall with gigantic horns in the film in an Instagram post, with an image of the monster towering above Dwayne Johnson's anti-hero:
This comparison graphic shows how the unfinished design compares to the final version:
Sabbac's Unused Design and the JSA's Assistance
Hawkeye (wearing Doctor Fate's helmet) and Dwayne Johnson's titular anti-hero faced up against Sabbac in Black Adam's last fight.
Given that the DC villain was shown in this abandoned design as a 26-foot monster, it appears that every member of the Justice Society of America (including Cyclone and Atom Smasher) would've been necessary to assist their comrades in eventually defeating Sabbac. This is appropriate since Atom Smasher's ability to shift size would be advantageous against Sabbac's lofty stature.
Furthermore, if Black Adam had been 26 feet tall, the method he defeated Sabbac would have been very different. Teth Adam was able to split Sabbac's skull in half with the aid of multiple clones of Hawkman utilizing Dr. Fate's helmet in the original cut.
If this unused version was used in the final edit, it would require the combined efforts of the whole team to slow Sabbac down, with Atom Smasher holding his ground so that Black Adam could split the villain's head.
In any event, Black Adam succeeded to demonstrate his dominance in the film at the price of Sabbac. Hopefully, a far more strong villain (or DC hero) will appear in the future to really test Teth Adam's abilities.
Black Adam is still showing in cinemas throughout the world.
