Henry Cavill's Tremendous James Bond Audition: A Missed Opportunity?

Discover how Henry Cavill's audition for James Bond impressed Casino Royale director Martin Campbell, but age became a deciding factor. Will Cavill get another chance to play the iconic spy?
Martin Campbell, the director of Casino Royale, praised Henry Cavill's "tremendous" James Bond audition performance. If Daniel Craig didn't exist, Cavill, according to him, would have been a fantastic Bond because of how terrific he looked and performed. Campbell, meanwhile, believes Cavill was just too young for the part at the time.

When Cavill applied for the role of James Bond in Casino Royale, he was 23 years old, making him the youngest Bond ever. Since then, he has claimed that Daniel Craig is a good fit for the part and that he wasn't prepared for it at the time.

Producers of the 007 franchise are searching for the next Bond after Daniel Craig has officially withdrawn from the role. Cavill is still a viable candidate in Campbell's opinion, but by the time he finished three movies, he would be too old. Producers are apparently searching for someone younger, ideally in their 30s, as the upcoming Bond film is expected to be a "complete reinvention" of the franchise.

Whether Cavill will be granted another chance to portray James Bond is yet to be determined. Martin Campbell, though, was undoubtedly impressed by his audition, and fans continue to like him.
