James Gunn and Matt Reeves want to produce more DC films, but Warner Bros. just wants more Superman

The Warner Bros. Other than more of Henry Cavill's Superman, Discovery has no idea what it wants
Things aren't getting any better at Warner Bros. With the business still seeking for a Kevin Feige-type to manage the production of DC superhero films and soon-to-be-former DC Films chief Walter Hamada departing the company the second Black Adam is in cinemas (so, Friday), James Gunn and Matt Reeves have ideas for what Warner Bros. What Discovery should do next is allow them to develop more DC superhero films!

This is according to a lengthy Hollywood Reporter story on the future of Warner Bros.' DC movie business, which adds that Gunn is apparently in negotiations with WBD about filming "a mystery movie," and maybe more than one—and, to be clear, that means a movie that is a mystery to us, not a whodunit. According to THR, Gunn would produce a second season of Peacemaker before tackling whatever this mystery film is, but that's all we know.

Reeves, who already has his The Batman spin-off on Colin Farrell's Penguin in the works for HBO Max, is working on a sequel to The Batman and wants to develop further movies—specifically, movies about other Batman villains, according to THR. Scarecrow, Clayface, and Professor Pyg have been particularly mentioned, however they might just be examples of villains rather than characters that would be the subject of spin-off films. In any case, the projects are "in the very early phases of gestation," including Scarecrow from Christopher Nolan's films and Clayface from Batman: The Animated Series. Professor Pyg, on the other hand, is a newer evil villain who is rather uninteresting, so perhaps a huge Matt Reeves film could achieve what Grant Morrison's comics couldn't and truly make him cool.

But, with Gunn and Reeves claiming the entertaining characters for which they want to produce films, Warner Bros. "Don't you people adore Superman?! ", says Discovery, wildly shaking its arms. Is anyone interested in making a film starring Henry Cavill as Superman? WBD really wants to do something with Superman, and it wants Henry Cavill to come back and portray him, but Dwayne Johnson appears to be the only one with a suggestion for how to produce a Superman movie—and his pitch is "what if I battled Superman? ”

Dwayne Johnson has been pitching a movie in which Black Adam battles Superman for quite some time, to the point where there are rumors that Superman even appears in Johnson's Black Adam movie—rumors that, if true, may or may not be casually addressed by a paragraph in this Hollywood Reporter that details how Johnson may or may not have secured permission to include Superman in the film. Theoretically. There's just no way to tell if Superman appears in the film. There is no way. We will never know.

For the time being, it appears that it is only a matter of waiting for Warner Bros. Discovery to get its sh*t together, which it has to, right?
