Will Kamala Harris run for President of the United States in 2024?

Here's all you need to know about Vice President Harris's presidential bid in 2024
The 2024 election season is now in full flow, and because President Biden has yet to declare his campaign for re-election, there is much conjecture about who could take his place. Vice President Kamala Harris, as Biden's second-in-command, is an obvious choice for the job. Will she push herself forward?

Here's all you need to know about Vice President Harris's presidential bid in 2024:

What are people's thoughts on Harris' vice presidency?

Despite a recent rise in her popularity rating, public perception of Harris has been poor in recent surveys coming up to the midterm elections. According to poll aggregator FiveThirtyEight, 50.5 percent of Americans disapprove of Harris, while 38.4 percent favor.

Republican opponents have focused their attention on Harris' position in the administration's immigration policy. Harris received special criticism for claiming that the United States' borders were safe, and leaders in border communities chastised her for not visiting the area. In September, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) identified Harris' home as a possible transit hub for migrants. He despatched the first two buses to Harris's D.C. on the same day. "We will continue sending migrants to sanctuary towns like D.C. until President Biden and Border Czar Harris step up and perform their responsibilities to control the border," Abbott said.

During an appearance on NBC's Late Night With Seth Meyers, Harris slammed Abbott for displacing the refugees. "They've suffered enormous danger and are seeking safety here [in the United States]," Harris added. "And talk about political theater — I mean, messing with people's lives.... You know, there were women with sleeping kids coming off those buses." Vance (R), Ryan pressed Harris on border security. When asked if he agreed with Harris' assertion that the border is secure, Ryan responded, "Kamala Harris is just incorrect on that."

Harris looks to be attempting to improve her image as the November elections approach. Politico claims that she recently recruited a new speechwriter, the third individual in that capacity since she became VP. Some of her previous speeches have been condemned, including one in Guatemala in which she exhorted migrants, "Do not come." Harris' office struggled to find its feet at the start of her term, with many staffers stepping away. According to Fox News, Harris's former speechwriter and the vice president's domestic policy adviser Rohini Kosoglu has worked for her since her days in the Senate.

Has Harris declared her intention to run in 2024?

Harris has not yet declared her intention to run for president in 2024. While the nation waits for Biden to decide whether to run for re-election, a Washington Post analyst ranks Harris near the top of prospective Democratic primary candidates if Biden steps down.

In an interview with NBC's Meet the Press, Harris said she was "extremely proud" of her work as Biden's vice president and reiterated her commitment to running for another term in the government if he choose to run.

"The president has stated unequivocally that he plans to run again, and if he does, I will gladly run beside him," she added. Biden has indicated that he intends to run again, but has not yet officially begun a campaign.

There has been conjecture that Harris is attempting to prepare for the worst-case scenario. Harris was in Michigan recently to campaign for Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D), who is seeking re-election. According to the Los Angeles Times, the two appear to be good buddies, but some political experts believe the campaign foreshadowed a prospective showdown between the two in either the 2024 or 2028 presidential elections.

Has Biden decided to run for President?

Harris's chances of running in 2024 are greatly dependent on if Biden decides to run. Biden has not made an official announcement that he would run for re-election, but he has stated that he intends to do so.

In a September interview with CBS News' 60 Minutes, Biden stated that it was too early for him to make a formal announcement owing to the obligations associated with that choice. He underlined that his professions of purpose do not ensure that he will follow through. This decision is still up in the air.

"Look, like I said at the outset, my desire is to run again," Biden stated. "But it's only an intention; whether it's a firm choice to run again remains to be seen."

What do Americans think of Harris on the ballot if Biden does not run?

Democratic strategists and aides have speculated about Harris' possibilities in 2024. Some feel that supporting Harris would be a mistake since she would be too weak to stave off more strong opponents. They point to a growing list of other possible Democratic primary candidates who are making tiny ripples in the polls. Many analysts feel she would struggle to compete with possible Republican contenders such as Trump or Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R).

According to poll statistics, these strategists may be misinterpreting Harris's potential support among Democratic voters. Voters appear to be assessing their alternatives for a post-Biden primary in 2024, and poll data actually favors Harris as the Democrats' next candidate. According to a September Morning Consult/Politico survey, Harris is the most probable presidential candidate if Biden does not run, with 28 percent of likely voters preferring her on the ticket. The poll also indicated that more respondents thought Biden should seek for re-election, rising from 51% to 59% in the most recent poll.

According to The New York Times, close Biden supporter former Connecticut Sen. Chris J. Dodd commended Harris's performance as vice president thus far while forecasting a possible spot for her on the 2024 ballot. "I hope the president runs for re-election," Dodd added, "but for whatever reason that may not be the case, it's difficult to conceive there would be a short list without Kamala's name on it. She's the vice president of the United States."

If the 2024 election is up for grabs, the October Harvard CAPS/Harris poll portrays a positive picture for Harris. Harris tops the list of probable contenders for the 2024 election if Biden does not run, with 25% of the vote. In a hypothetical scenario in which Biden were competing against others in the Democratic primary, he would defeat Harris with 37% to 13%.

Morning Consult/Politico polled 751 Democratic registered voters from September 23 to 25, with an unweighted margin of error of +/-4 percentage points. Between October 11 and October 15, 2010, Harvard CAPS/Harris conducted an online poll of 2010 registered voters.
