More Ways to Go Overboard with Halloween Decorations

When the calendar turns to October 1, it's time to transform your home from cozy to haunted
Halloween is only 45 days away, but there's no need to panic and start sprinkling fake cobwebs on the windows or adorning the porch with ornamental gourds. You still have time to put together a spooky house that will attract trick-or-treaters and fill your mailbox with passive-aggressive comments from your neighbors.

You might not have enough time to make your own styrofoam tombstones or build an authentic-looking coffin to leave on the front lawn, but if you're willing to spend a lot of money on your decor, there are plenty of animatronics and other out-of-this-world decor ideas that will make your home the one that all the kids want to visit.

Betty Sharpe

This 3.8-foot tall blood-splattered animatronic brandishes a big knife while clutching a blood-soaked sack that wriggles and writhes with her last supposed victim inside, clearly modeled on Laina Morris' 'Overly Attached Girlfriend' character. The $170 animatronic also speaks, saying things such, "My sister used to be mommy's favorite...but I took care of that!" (giggles).”

Inferno Pumpkin Skeleton with LCD LifeEyes in Giant Size

When it comes to Halloween decor, The Home Depot has been really bringing it the last few years, starting with a towering 12-foot skeleton that was all the rage as the pandemic was getting underway, which is now joined by this 12-foot tall alternative featuring a more detailed sculpted skeletal body with a glowing chest and a pumpkin head with a glowing mouth. The $380 Inferno Pumpkin Skeleton, like the original, has LCD displays for eyes, giving the impression that the towering trick-or-treater terrorizer is scouring your yard for its next victim.

Hovering Witch Animated

It's the season to go big or go home with your yard decor, and The Home Depot has another towering nightmare in the form of an animatronic witch floating 12-feet above the ground. In reality, she's supported by the broom in her hand, but the illusion is convincing, and it's heightened with dynamic LCD eyes, LED lights illuminating her face, and a moving jaw timed to many distinct spoken texts. The entire arrangement costs $300, but you could add a fan to blow her hair around and sell the effect even more.

Monkey Monty the Musical

Many toys, such as those small wind-up cymbal crashing monkeys, already feel like they belong in a horror film. However, supersizing them to a six-foot tall animatronic is pure nightmare fodder. Monty opens and closes his mouth while making shrieking monkey noises and bashing a pair of cymbals together for $300. (with accompanying sound effects). Place it right on your porch to make trick-or-treaters work for their treats.

Clowns from a Creep Show

Few things are more frightening than clowns, but this animatronic ups the ante with a pair of demonic creep show performers. The shorter clown balances upside-down on the taller clown's raised hand while kicking in the air, and after a few moments, the taller clown points its head towards an unsuspecting victim. Then, with flashes and sound effects, they both rush forward for a satisfying jump scare. This animatronic, which costs close to $5,000, is for serious Halloween decoration enthusiasts.

Soul Eater

If you need to show the neighborhood youngsters what happens when they don't get off your yard, the $370 Soul Sucker animatronic should suffice. The shrouded reaper is holding a tiny child, and after a brief menacing spiel, it elevates her and begins sucking the soul from her body using LEDs and a secret hose that can be attached to a fog machine. Unfortunately, no fog machine is included, which raises the price of this animatronic even higher—but the effect appears to be well worth it.

Clown Scare Sitting

There's no better way to spend Halloween night than sitting in a chair with a bowl of candy in your lap, dressed in a costume that doesn't appear to contain anyone, and then terrified innocent trick-or-treaters. If you can't do that, this $230 Sitting Scare Clown animatronic will do the job for you. The clown appears to be sleeping with its head down, but as a piece of candy is removed from its bowl, it abruptly awakens, flings its head up, and exclaims "surprise!! ”

A seven-foot-tall inflatable T.rex skeleton devours a human

Inflatables are a terrific option for outdoor decor because they can be huge when fully assembled but deflate and fold away into a little box for simple storage the rest of the year. There are a plethora of inflatable monsters and pop icons to choose from, but we're fond to this seven-foot T.rex skeleton chewing on a random person. We have a lot of questions here. How did it regain consciousness? Will a skeleton without a stomach still crave flesh? Where can we purchase one? The solution to the last question is the simplest, as Amazon has these for $65.

Raccoon, get out of the trash!

During the Halloween season, preying on existing anxieties is the easiest method to frighten the neighborhood, and most homeowners are already afraid of raccoons crawling into attics, crawlspaces, or garbage cans, making this animatronic effect an ideal choice for suburbia. When someone goes too close, a fallen trash can shows a zombie raccoon springing out of one end, coupled with some ear-splitting scream sound effects and flashing red eyes.

Inflatable Skeleton Lovers 5.5-Foot Tall

You could cover your property in the most horrifying Halloween decorations imaginable and your neighbors would probably not notice. Instead, they'd probably bring the kids by to see what was going on. However, if you place this 5.5-foot-tall inflatable skeleton pair, who appear to be involved in a spooky hookup, on your front lawn, you will surely have neighbors and the homeowners association knocking on your door. This is the way to truly ruffle some feathers this Halloween.
