Bella Poarch, a Filipino-American social media celebrity, revealed on Friday on Instagram how her childhood experience inspired her latest hit "Living Hell"
Poarch, who has over 91 million TikTok followers, released "Living Hell" earlier this month as part of her debut EP "Dolls." The song, according to the 25-year-old content creator, encapsulates her struggles in the Philippines.
"It's a story about growing up in a real-life living nightmare in a tiny room in the Philippines," she explained. "I've spent my entire life trying to escape my childhood trauma, my living hell, and no matter how much therapy I do, how much medicine I take, and how far I try to run away... it always comes back to haunt me."
According to Poarch, the color yellow is extensively featured in her new single's music video since the set design was inspired by her childhood bedroom.
Poarch claimed that her parents compelled her to like the hue in order to establish their power over her. Because her parents "wanted to make sure that I didn't escape when I was in there," her childhood bedroom had a lock on the outside.
Poarch found it difficult to create the music video since it required her to relive her childhood trauma. She stated that when she is ready, she will tell more about her past.
"Sorry for the essay," she continued in her post. "The reason I'm writing this is because I want all of you who are reading this and all of you who have supported me along this journey to understand that I love you more than you know/. You guys are my escape. You guys are why I wake up every day. You guys are the reason that I'm able to break free from this mess and understand that things are going to be okay in my darkest times."
Poarch then dedicated the song to individuals who have gone through similar ordeals, saying, "To anyone who is also going through their own living hell, you will escape and I'll be right there by your side, this one's for you."
TikToker was born in the Philippines and adopted at the age of three by a Filipino mother and an American war veteran father. Her adoptive father was emotionally and physically violent to her and her adopted brother, she claimed on an edition of the H3 Podcast last year.
She recalled having to work on her family's farm in the early hours of the morning before school while speaking with hosts Ethan and Hila Klein, saying, "It was very difficult because I had to wake up at 4 a.m. and sometimes at 3 a.m. if I want to get to school on time because school starts at 6:30 a.m. in the Philippines. So I had to be able to finish all the chores, which included sweeping the yard, picking up dog sh*t, cleaning the cat house, and sweeping goat poop."
"And I have to clean up really well because my stepdad would be upset at me," she explained, "'Oh, you're not having breakfast if you don't get this done."
