This Game Has Everything Fallout Fans Want – Survive the Fall

What Makes Survive the Fall a Must-Play RPG
The upcoming game Survive the Fall is a post-apocalyptic RPG that builds on the original Fallout's template, with its robust camp development system, squad-based combat, and scavenging. The game's protagonists must build bonds with various factions scattered around its three biomes to survive and thrive.
The game's squad-based setup allows players to manually search through abandoned chests for chemical compounds or chop down trees for lumber. They can also tap a button to delegate grunt work to one of their cohorts, allowing them to divert their attention elsewhere. This approach feels more natural than forcing players to be hands-on with everything themselves while AI companions stand around like bored children.
The game's gameplay is team-based, with players focusing on stealth as their priority due to the scarcity of rifle and shotgun ammunition. Players can approach each encounter with the various marauders and ghouls with a careful approach, treating each infiltration of an enemy camp as a careful stalk through the recent Commando's origins. Environmental hazards are also available, such as explosive barrels and cargo pallets that can be dropped onto patrolling guards with a well-timed rifle shot.

The game shifts gears into a base-building management sim, where documents recovered from the world can be researched to earn knowledge points, which can then be invested in a sizable technology tree to unlock the ability to craft everything from bunk beds and kitchen areas to water filtration systems. Resources like timber can be crafted into planks, which are then assembled into frames for new structures, like plant boxes or gates to block nighttime raiders. Foraged herbs or meat salvaged from wolves and deer can be prepared into meals and stuffed into the backpacks of whichever group of adventurers they choose to send out on their next expedition.

In the finished game outside of their own base, players find several intriguing areas to explore, such as a crashed passenger plane converted into an enemy fort and a farmstead crawling with stasis-infected ghouls. However, some areas, such as the swamplands of Coriza, have a frame rate that is more volatile than any of the toxic substances oozing from the earth. Additionally, there is an occasional game-breaking bug, and players may have to quit and reload their save after getting stuck in an inventory screen or building menu.

There is still another month or so before Survive the Fall's release for developer Angry Bull Studio to optimize performance further. However, there is not enough time to draft in actors to record lines of dialogue, as interacting with your squad or the various NPCs you meet along the way feels a little flat when it's done exclusively via on-screen text.
Despite these issues, players can still get a few laughs out of the odd characters, particularly the quirky character named Bloooper, who refers to the Stasis Smog as "Fart Wind." Most of their conversations serve to queue up the next fetch quest rather than giving them any lasting impressions of each faction member they meet. Survive the Fall is due for release on PC this May and is full of post-apocalyptic potential, assuming that the existing rough edges found on its controls and performance can be resolved.
