Progress in Acceptance: Filipinos' Changing Views on LGBTQIA+ People

Discover the positive shift in Filipino society as the SWS survey reveals increased acceptance and trust towards LGBTQIA+ individuals. Learn how society is embracing diversity.
Results from the SWS poll show that attitudes toward LGBTQIA+ individuals have improved. In comparison to 2013, when 67% of respondents answered the same, 79% of respondents concur that homosexuals and lesbians are equally trustworthy as any other Filipino. This shows that LGBTQIA+ individuals are becoming accepted more widely in Filipino culture.

The fact that 73% of respondents think homosexuals and lesbians have significantly advanced society is also positive. This demonstrates how Filipinos are beginning to appreciate the myriad ways that LGBTQIA+ persons contribute to our society.

According to a report by ABS-CBN News, Reyna Valmores, the chairman of the LGBTQIA+ group Bahaghari Philippines, said it was "positive" to see that many Filipinos regard homosexuals and lesbians as trustworthy.
