Simpson's Halloween Special Tribute's to the Anime Death Note
"Treehouse of Horror XXXII" is the seventh episode of the thirty-third season of the American animated television series The Simpsons. It premiered on Fox in the United States on October 10, 2021, and, unlike the previous season, aired at the proper time (before to Halloween) to avoid conflict with Major League Baseball's postseason, which lasted into November (the 2021 World Series went six of seven games). Matthew Faughnan directed the episode, which was written by John Frink.
Death Note (stylized in all capitals) is a Japanese manga series written and drawn by Tsugumi Ohba. From December 2003 to May 2006, it was published in Shueisha's shnen manga magazine Weekly Shnen Jump, with 108 chapters collected in 12 tankbon volumes. The plot revolves around Light Yagami, an adolescent genius who stumbles into a mysterious notebook: the "Death Note," which belonged to the shinigami Ryuk and provides the user the extraordinary ability to kill anybody whose name is inscribed in its pages. Light's subsequent attempts to use the Death Note to carry out a worldwide massacre of individuals he deems immoral in order to create a crime-free society under the alias of a god-like vigilante named "Kira," and the subsequent efforts of an elite Japanese police task force led by enigmatic detective L to apprehend him, are the focus of the series.
From October 2006 to June 2007, Nippon Television broadcast a 37-episode anime television series adaption created by Madhouse and directed by Tetsur Araki. Nisio Isin also wrote a light book based on the series, which was published in 2006. In addition, Konami produced multiple video games for the Nintendo DS, and the series was turned into three live action films released in Japan in June 2006, November 2006, and February 2008, as well as a television drama in 2015. In 2016, a Death Note: New Generation miniseries and a fourth film were released. In August 2017, an American film adaption was released exclusively on Netflix, and a sequel is apparently in the works.
Except for video games and soundtracks, all Death Note media is licensed and distributed in North America by Viz Media. Before Viz Media licensed the anime, the episodes were available for download via IGN in North America. The series aired on YTV's Bionix anime block in Canada and Adult Swim in the United States, followed by a DVD release. The live-action movie were only shown in a few North American cinemas in 2008 before being released on home video. The Death Note manga had sold over 30 million copies as of April 2015.
