The plot revolves around Gemma (Allison Williams), a genius roboticist at a toy manufacturer who used artificial intelligence to create M3GAN, a life-like doll meant to be a child's best friend and a parent's best ally. Gemma enlists the assistance of the M3GAN prototype after unexpectedly acquiring custody of her orphaned niece - a decision with unforeseeable implications.

M3GAN is an artificial intelligence marvel, a life-like doll built to be a child's best friend and a parent's best ally. M3GAN, designed by genius toy-company roboticist Gemma (Get Out's Allison Williams), can listen, watch, and learn as she transforms into the child's companion and teacher, playmate and protector.
Gemma is confused and unprepared to be a parent when she is suddenly entrusted with her orphaned 8-year-old niece, Cady (Violet McGraw, The Haunting of Hill House). Under great work pressure, Gemma chooses to connect her M3GAN prototype with Cady in an attempt to solve both problems—a decision with unforeseeable implications.
M3GAN is directed by award-winning filmmaker Gerard Johnstone (Housebound), from a script by Akela Cooper (Malignant, The Nun 2) based on a tale by Akela Cooper and James Wan. It is produced by Jason Blum and James Wan.
Ronny Chieng (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Brian Jordan Alvarez (Will & Grace), Jen Van Epps (Cowboy Bebop), Lori Dungey (The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, extended edition), and Stephane Garneau-Montenegro also appear in the film (Straight Forward).
