In the TasteAtlas Awards 2021, 'Sinigang' was named the world's best soup.
According to TasteAtlas, the Filipino traditional meal "sinigang" has been declared the Best Soup in the World.
The sour yet tasty "Sinigang" topped the soup category with a 4.63 rating at the 2021 Awards. It outperformed Romania's Ciorbă de fasole cu afumătură and Japan's Shoyu Ramen, which received ratings of 4.55 and 4.54, respectively.
Mercimek çorbas from Turkey and Tonkotsu Ramen from Japan rounded out the top five.
Last year, TasteAtlas, a website dedicated to honoring traditional food from throughout the world, named the Pinoy dish the best-rated vegetable soup in the world.
It defined sinigang as a one-of-a-kind soup that is a real representation of Filipino cuisine, "with its sour lightness perfectly complimenting the country's harsh tropical heat."
Locavore and Sentro 1771 were both included on the website as eateries that serve good sinigang.
Meanwhile, Filipino cuisine was placed 19th out of 50 nations on the list of the World's Best Cuisines, which was topped by Italian cuisine. Greek and Spanish cuisines rounded out the top three.
Tortang Talong, Lumpiang Shanghai, and Sinigang na Baboy were also named as some of the top Filipino foods by TasteAtlas.
Among the website's suggested Filipino eateries were The Aristocrat, Balay Dako, Sebastian's Ice Cream, Locavore, and Good Taste.
