Geralt of Rivia, the protagonist of 'The Witcher' has the potential to become a legendary figure. Henry Cavill's portrayal of the monster-hunter Witcher earned rave reviews, but fans were shocked to learn that he was leaving the series! What percentage of the rumors were true?
The source material for Netflix's hit show 'The Witcher' is so good that it can be said that the show can stand on its own. However, the fact that the show stars Henry Cavill as the titular character doesn't hurt. He is the show's most prominent actor, and his presence undoubtedly aided Netflix's success with "The Witcher." Season 1 of the fantasy drama received widespread critical and commercial acclaim, with praise focusing primarily on the outstanding writing and Henry Cavill's performance. As a result, Henry's departure from the show will be a major setback for Netflix and the show's creators. So, what's going on in that part of town? Let's take a look.
The year 2020 was a bad one for the entire world. Fans of 'The Witcher' had it worse with the arrival of a global pandemic that brought the world to a halt. Henry Cavill announced his departure from the show in late 2020. His abrupt departure from the series was not explained, but his busy film schedules were cited as one of the reasons for his hasty decision. Maybe it was because of the difficult conditions in which the series was shot?
When the lockdown was imposed in several parts of the world, 'The Witcher' was well into production for its second season. The filming came to a halt in the second quarter of the year, and it was repeatedly postponed for months. It would have been a completely different situation if it had been a low-budget film. However, a project as large as 'The Witcher' suffered greatly as a result of the ongoing delays. Furthermore, Kristofer Hivju, one of the leading stars of the second season, tested positive for Coronavirus. The shooting was severely hampered, and it was not possible to resume until mid-August. When a second wave swept across England, where they were filming the series, it appeared that things were going better this time. After months of waiting, the crew was able to resume shooting, but Henry was injured. It all started to look very bleak all of a sudden.
In the midst of all of this turmoil, news broke that Henry Cavill had decided to leave the show, and his replacement had already been announced. The Golden Globe Award-winning actor Matt Bomer was widely rumored to be filling Henry's shoes as Geralt of Rivia. It was a major setback for the actor's fans around the world, as well as fans of 'The Witcher,' who had grown accustomed to Henry's incredible portrayal of their favorite Witcher. The rumors persisted well into 2021, with neither Henry nor Netflix coming forward to put an end to them.
When Netflix officially announced that 'The Witcher' Season 2 will be released in December 2021, all the speculations and rumors about Henry leaving the show were debunked. Season 2's fantastic trailer was released in July 2021, and it received a lot of positive feedback. Netflix has also confirmed that the series will be renewed for a third season, with Henry Cavill reprising his role as the sword-wielding monster-hunter. As a result, it all turned out to be baseless rumors.
Henry Cavill appears to be pleased with the show's renewal for a second season, and Geralt of Rivia has all the makings of a future iconic character. Only a fool would let such an opportunity pass them by, and Henry isn't one of them!
When these announcements were made, the fans breathed a sigh of relief. While they wait for the episodes to arrive, a capable nerd must be working on the screenplay drafts for 'The Witcher' Season 3 somewhere in LA. It's an exciting time!

Henry Cavill has a contract for the full 7 seasons. He is not being replaced. The article that originally "broke the news" of him being replaced was pure click bait.
