The last time the Philippines won the Miss Universe pageant was in 1973, so it’s understandable that Filipinos are excited for Pia Wurtzbach’s win in 2015. But this one person was so excited that he was willing to pay an eight figure sum for Wurtzbach’s gown during the pageant.
According to designer Albert Andrada, someone offered a large amount for the dress, but Andrada refused to sell it, saying he wanted to keep it as a remembrance. He said:
“Kinikilabutan ako sa presyo na binibigay sa akin. Masyadong malaki, it’s unbelievable. Pero siyempre sa akin gusto ko itago ito kasi that’s the only souvenir or remembrance that I have from Pia. Siyempre anong mararamdaman ni Pia kung pagbibili ko yan, siyempre siya rin gusto niya yan makita anytime na pagtanda niya nandiyan pa rin yan.”
(“I get goosebumps at the offers. It’s too big, it’s unbelievable. I want to keep the gown because it’s my only souvenir or remembrance that I have from Pia. What would Pia feel if I sold it? Of course she’d want to see it when she grows older.”)
On bashers, Andrada said that he can’t please everyone, but that he hopes it could help local fashion designers.
You can’t please everyone, hindi mo naman mapapasaya lahat ng tao so sa akin lang naman okay lang because meron tayong kanya-kanyang opinyon. I respect the comments of others, also negative, or positive, they’re all fine with me. If I can’t please everyone, I can’t do anything. But what I did was a fair share of my talent to the Philippines.
