Tim Cone and Brian Goorjian Doesn't Want to Coach Gilas Pilipinas

It remains to be seen who will be the next man to lead the national team.
Two of the most successful basketball coaches in the Philippines, Tim Cone and Brian Goorjian, have both expressed no interest in coaching the national team, Gilas Pilipinas, just yet.

Cone, the winningest coach in PBA history, said he is not interested in taking over the national team because he wants to focus on his current team, Barangay Ginebra.
"I don't mind helping the national team in any other capacity other than head coach," Cone said. "But I'm not ready to give up my full attention to Ginebra."
Cone has been coaching Ginebra since 2015 and has led the team to 13 championships, including the last two PBA Governors' Cups. He is also the current head coach of the Bay Area Dragons in the East Asia Super League.

Goorjian, who is currently coaching the Australian national team, also said he is not interested in coaching Gilas Pilipinas at this time.
"I'm committed to coaching Australia until the end of the 2024 Paris Olympics," Goorjian said. "After that, we'll see what happens."
Goorjian led the Boomers to a bronze medal finish in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and is considered one of the best coaches in the world. He has also coached in the NBA and the PBA.

The decision of Cone and Goorjian not to coach Gilas Pilipinas leaves the national team without a head coach just weeks before the 2023 Asian Games.

The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) is expected to name a new head coach soon.

The search for a new head coach for Gilas Pilipinas is still ongoing. It remains to be seen who will be the next man to lead the national team.
