Rare James Bond Aston Martin V8 from 'The Living Daylights' up for sale
The James Bond Aston Martin V8 featured in the 1987 film 'The Living Daylights' is now up for sale, making it a rare and highly sought-after collector's item. It is known as Car Number 10, one of four real Aston Martin V8s acquired by the production team for the movie. The reason for using these specific cars was that Aston Martin couldn't supply new vehicles for filming at the time due to a backlog of orders from other customers.

What makes this particular car even more exciting for fans of the famous spy is that the dummy rocket booster button has been replaced with a functional one, capable of shooting actual flames.

The car was originally manufactured in 1973 in Tudor Green but was acquired by EON Productions in 1986. Along with its three counterparts, it underwent modifications for the movie, including fiberglass bodywork, a new bonnet, fresh grey paint, and new wheels to make it appear newer. The Bond script called for additional features like removable skis and a rocket boost function, further enhancing its allure.

During filming, the Aston V8 was sent downhill, so its engine and gearbox were removed to reduce weight. After the movie, EON Productions kept custody of the car until 1995 when it was sold to Peter Nelson, the founder of the 'Cars of the Stars' museum in Keswick, England.

Subsequently, in 2004, the car became part of a private collection in America. In 2021, a new owner acquired it and restored the V540 V8 Vantage-spec engine and five-speed manual gearbox.

Despite all the action it has seen on the big screen, the Aston Martin V8 remains in remarkably mint condition. Two of the four cars are part of another private collection in the US, while the production company retained one. This sale presents a unique opportunity for a lucky collector to own a piece of James Bond history with this iconic Aston Martin V8. However, given the rarity and significance of the vehicle, it's expected to command a considerable price, with the reserve set at an eye-popping $1.4 million, at the very least.
