We received a sneak peek from the experts, and your hair is going to look amazing
With summer behind us, fall weather upon us, and 2023 creeping closer by the day, we're ready to ditch our summer beach waves, dust off our hot tools, and get psyched about what hairdo trends are in store for 2023. We received a sneak peek from the experts, and your hair is going to look amazing. The new year is all about improving on our favorite hairstyles (such as the classic chignon, side part, side swept bangs, sky-high ponytail, jagged shag, and more).
Whether you want long hair, a short haircut, a pixie cut, braids, a bob haircut, or even a mullet, the new year's beauty trends are all about making your looks easy to achieve. Don't allow your magnificent strands get hidden under your favorite beanie next year. Level up with these styles that will dazzle in 2023.
Uber's Ponytail
Of course, the ponytail will never go out of style, but according to Janelle Sands, a hairdresser, braid and extension specialist, and CURLS brand instructor, ponytails will be over-the-top in 2023. "Uber ponytail styles can be distinguished by larger-than-life ponytails of all textures," Sands explains. "Whether you wear it high or low, teasing the base of the pony and adding a lavish amount of hair extensions will add a little extra oomph."
Braids Fulani
Prepare for a history lesson: Fulani braids originated with the African Fula tribe, and Sands predicts that this braiding fad will be greater than ever in 2023. "These trendy looks feature natural hair that is seamlessly blended with bulk hair extensions," Sands explains. "These braid styles will demonstrate various hair braiding techniques within a single style." Expect to see various braid sizes ranging from tiny to huge, as well as various braid patterns, all within the same style."
Pixie Bangs on Short Curly Hair
Sands believes that the coming year will see an increase in shorter chops and texturized bangs. This style is meant to be light, breezy, and edgy. Sands suggests using a lightweight curl-defining foam to make your shorter bangs stand out. DEVACURL'S Supermousse is ideal for defining each curl.
Curls that are long
Those with naturally curly hair are seeking for creative methods to highlight the texture of their hair. "Stretch methods like soft headband curling rods and overnight rollers are making space, along with curl elongation techniques like roller sets," adds Sands. "These methods produce smooth, long curvature curls and waves and bring excitement to stagnant styles." Sands recommends using a leave-in conditioner to keep curls hydrated and in place all day.
The Retro Cut
Here simple hairdo change exudes Clueless vibes with a modern twist, and we're smitten (if you've ever purposely tucked your hair behind your ear like Cher Horowitz, this is a safe spot for you). We're like this low-maintenance (but elevated) style with a center part or side-swept bangs. Furthermore, the pros rate it 10/10. "The '90s have returned!" Long, side-swept bangs may create a fun style. When styling, bevel (aka slope) the root of your hair to get a beautiful bend. "The extra root lift will help keep hair out of your eyes," explains Alessandra Bruno, a hairdresser at FEKKAI Soho Salon.
The Updo Flippy
When it comes to hair trends, Zendaya is constantly at the forefront or well ahead of the pack. We couldn't help but look as she appeared at the 74th Primetime Emmys with her flippy updo. This hairstyle offers the appearance of a half-up, half-down hairdo that is the ideal combination of little maintenance with a playful, stylish vibe. We can't wait to do it all over again this year. Curl your hair from the crown to the ends. Brush them out and spritz with a light-hold hair spray after they've cooled (such as Bumble and Bumble Does It All Hairspray). If you have thick hair, collect it all into a high ponytail and smooth the top (while making sure the top of your hair is slicked back). Leave half of your hair down and bind the top half with an elastic if you have fine hair. Do you like Zendaya's headband? This black silk headband is a great substitute.
Red Hair Colors
When it comes to hair color trends, red is timeless. Thank you, Sadie Sink, for providing us with tremendous red hair inspiration (and envy!). "Look for an abundance of deep, warm reds for winter, evoking the cozy vibes we all need right now," Jordan adds. The wonderful thing about red is its adaptability. It's extremely adaptable to your skin tone—and your personality. There's a hue of red to suit everyone, from deep cinnamon to warm ginger to vivid paprikas.
Barbie's Ponytail
Although it won't be available until next summer, we're counting down the days, minutes, and seconds until the premiere of the new Barbie film (talk about the ultimate throwback). With all of our childhood fantasies finally coming true (Ryan Gosling as Ken...sigh), it's no wonder that the sky-high Barbie-inspired ponytail is making a comeback as well. The most difficult aspect of developing this style is obtaining height and hold. But, with a few simple strategies, it's completely achievable. "I love high ponytails. To maintain hair smooth, I apply FEKKAI Brilliant Gloss Multi-Tasker Perfecting Cream, then brush hair upwards and fix it in place. "After that, I use a small toothbrush or beard brush to slick back any flyaways and keep it as smooth as possible," Bruno explains. Do you require a visual? Look at this simple high ponytail technique.
Chignon Low and Sleek
The nicest thing about a chignon is that it flatters almost everyone. A chignon is the low ponytail of the bun category, and we've seen it all around fashion week, from oval to heart-shaped to round faces. You may dress it up or down for a casual look or something a touch more formal. "A low, sleek chignon is a timeless look that never goes out of style."
"For a more contemporary look, twist your hair back and secure it with a small metallic or tortoise-shell claw clip, leaving it a little messy." "Alternatively, use gel for a super slick wet look," Jordan suggests. Are you obsessed with accessories? Consider wearing a scarf. "With so many beautiful scarves to choose from, wearing one in your hair is a great way to incorporate it into your outfit." Tease fine hair, tie a scarf around the base of your ponytail, leaving one side longer than the other, and knot the hair and scarf together into a bun. "Then secure with bobby pins," Bruno suggests. MARADJI Scrunchie Foulchie in Anita Powder is a lovely scarf scrunchie that will give you the style in minutes.
