Nationwide Minimum Wage proposal of ₱33,000

Increase the National Minimum Wage so that people may make a Livable Income
Government union federations have joined calls for pay increases and job security, pleading with the government to increase the national minimum wage so that people may make a livable income.

Government employees asked the President on Tuesday to "take urgent steps to address the worsening plight of workers in government," citing the erosion of the peso's buying power as a result of rising inflation.

Santiago Dasmarias Jr., national president of the Confederation for Unity, Recognition and Advancement of Government Employees, said, "Present policies like the Salary Standardization Law (SSL) and the Compensation and Position Classification System (CPCS) have deprived us of salaries and benefits we need to make ends meet."
While CPCS is an uniform compensation plan for employees in government-owned and controlled enterprises, SSL was created to streamline and raise the pay of public sector personnel.

The labor unions demanded that the minimum salary for government employees be raised to ₱33,000 per month, citing existing family living wage criteria as their justification.

A new recruit assigned to a Salary Grade 1 job would only get a monthly salary of ₱12,517 under the third revision of the Salary Standardization Law, which went into effect on January 1 of this year.

A family of five need at least ₱12,030 to cover both basic food and non-food requirements, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority's preliminary data from the Family Income and Expenditure Survey.
