Rise Of The Beasts will star Michelle Yeoh and Pete Davidson as Transformers

In the forthcoming Transformers film, Pete Davidson will portray Autobot Mirage, and Michelle Yeoh will play Maximal Airazor
Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts director Steven Caple Jr. released a couple of significant casting announcements on his Instagram today that appear meticulously meant to fool you into agreeing that you might be sort of interested in watching Rise Of The Beasts. The first new addition to the ensemble is Pete Davidson, about whom people have... strong feelings... and the other is Michelle Yeoh, who is fantastic and generally adored.

So, if you like her in Everything, Everywhere, All At Once, you have to like her in Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts, no matter how many Pete Davidsons are in it! As a result, you should enjoy Rise Of The Beasts! And if that's the case, we have some other suggestions for you to look into (but not right now because we don't have time).

According to Caple's Instagram post, Davidson is playing Mirage, an original G1 Autobot who transformed into an old '70s-style Formula 1 car in the cartoon (but he'll be a Porsche in Rise Of The Beasts, despite the fact that there were a ton of Autobots who turned into 911s and none of them were Mirage). Yeoh will play Airazor, who isn't even an Autobot. She's one of the titular animals, and in the Beast Wars animation from the 1990s, she was a robot that transformed into a bird. She's also one of the few female Cybertronians in the original Transformers continuity, provided you regard Beast Wars as part of the original continuity, which you should (we don't have time to get into this!).

Rise Of The Beasts stars Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback as the primary humans, with Peter Cullen reprising his role as Optimus Prime (Caple referred to him as the film's "robot lead"), and it is set (at least partially) in 1990s Brooklyn. It will also have Maximals (good guy robots that transform into animals) and Terrorcons, in addition to Autobots (which are like Decepticons, but with more terror). It will open in 2023, following a protracted delay last year.
