The actor, who recently stated that he will reprise his role as Superman in future DC films, will not portray Geralt in season 4
Netflix announced today that The Witcher will return for a fourth season. However, the streamer also revealed that Henry Cavill will not be returning for season 4. Instead, Liam Hemsworth will play Geralt of Rivia, the new monster slayer.
Netflix's live-action version of the beloved Witcher books premiered in 2019 and soon went viral, with many applauding Henry Cavill's austere yet endearing portrayal of the white-haired witcher himself, Geralt. Since that initial season, The Witcher has grown into a Netflix brand, with further seasons, anime prequels, movies, and even a kid-friendly spin-off. However, the original series' actor will not be returning as the fantasy franchise expands.
It’s official: The Witcher is returning for Season 4, and Henry Cavill will be handing his swords to Liam Hemsworth as the new Geralt of Rivia after Season 3. Welcome to the Witcher family, @LiamHemsworth!

In a tweet earlier today, Netflix announced that Cavill will leave the role once season three of The Witcher 3 premieres...sometime in the future. Starting in season four, Liam Hemsworth will join the "Witcher family," donning the white wig and wielding the awesome swords as Geralt.
"My trip as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and regrettably, I will be putting down my medallion and swords for Season 4," Cavill stated in a Netflix statement.
"Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find," Cavill continued, "as with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam's take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men."
Hemsworth, a Witcher fan, also released a comment regarding the shocking news, stating that he's been a fan of Cavill's portrayal of the role for years and that he was "inspired" by his performance and what he brought to the character.
"I may be filling some large shoes, but I'm really happy to be entering into The Witcher universe," Hemsworth remarked.
The early reaction on the internet has been...unfavorable! Many fans are perplexed and outraged by Cavill's departure from the role. And, while he's expected to retire the swords and medallion in favor of a crimson cape and tights as Superman in the DCEU film franchise, I'm sure many Witcher fans will be heartbroken to see the quirky actor depart the beloved program. But, hey, with all that DC cash, he could definitely construct a cooler PC!
