It's the newest in the Valkyrie Profile role-playing game series. The series is known for its dark depiction of Norse mythology, as well as its unique twists on traditional RPG mechanics.

The overall plot of Valkyrie Profiles includes mortals and gods being entangled in one other's worlds—and battles. Valkyrie Elysium follows Nora, a new Valkyrie summoned to halt Ragnarok, the heavenly conflict that is tearing the earth apart.

Nora enlists the souls of chosen mortals, known as "Einherjar," to help her in her battles. Nora is also bestowed with abilities and weaponry that enable her to be a quick and lethal opponent on the battlefield.

Nora must learn, grow, and chart her own course

Nora was created by the ailing All-Father Odin with the express purpose of preserving the world from Ragnarok, a catastrophic catastrophe caused by Loki's rebellion against Odin. But Nora's mission to avert the catastrophe isn't as straightforward as it appears.

As players go through Valkyrie Profile, Nora discovers mysteries and encounters individuals that shed light on new pathways and alternative options. Nora's strength is being tested by a dark-armored former Valkyrie named Hilde, and Loki herself raises questions about her mission. She has no memories of who she was before Odin turned her into a Valkyrie; how can she know what's wrong and what's right?

Nora follows her life's course and discovers her fate based on the decisions of the players. Her fates are revealed through several endings.

Nora's Destiny is Written in Fast-Paced Action (and a Few Friends)

Nora's strength and agility in combat allow players to rack up combos while mowing down massive waves of fiends. Fighting entails combining magic with physical strikes, which is amplified by Divine Arts. Divine Arts, when discovered and deployed, unleash tremendous, far-reaching strikes at the expense of a magic charge.

Nora is considerably more powerful when she is aided by her Einherjar, warrior spirits that have committed to serve her. When called, Einherjar fight alongside the Valkyrie with a variety of magics and weapons—and not all of them are pleased to be serving Nora. Death does not always solve a person's issues.

The settings are solemn but striking

Valkyrie Elysium has a dark, otherworldly ambiance that lends weight to Nora's perilous voyage. Players guide Nora and her Einherjar through towns and castles ravaged by Ragnarok, yet not everything is a shambles. Valkyrie Elysium also displays Nora huge flower meadows and misty woodlands packed with briars.

Valkyrie Elysium's ethereal settings are influenced by art nouveau architecture, traditional European fantasy, and Norse mythology. The gods, monsters, and mortals in Valkyrie Elysium are recognizable, but with artistic changes and narrative twists that distinguish them, such as Odin's casual lean and Fenrir's flaming purple eyes. Players who have played prior Valkyrie Profile games may experience a pang of nostalgia.

Valkyrie Elysium is a fast-paced action RPG for both new and returning Valkyrie Profile players. Fights need tactical thought; mindless button-mashing is a sure way to die. To efficiently take down the game's room-sized enemies, you must balance Einherjar summoning with assaults, magic, and Divine Arts. The dilemma is whether Nora will utilize her abilities to serve Odin or to forge her own path.
