Is it Too Late for Baby Shark The Movie?

With 10 billion views, the original song is the most viewed video in YouTube history
According to a press release from ViacomCBS, the viral megahit Baby Shark, the most popular video in YouTube history, will be adapted into a feature-length film for the Paramount+ streaming service in 2023. And we already feel horrible for all the parents who are set to hear the same boring tune on repeat for the umpteenth time.

The film, which was originally reported by Deadline, was unveiled Tuesday at the ViacomCBS Investors Event by Brian Robbins, the chief content officer for movies and family entertainment at Paramount+. Nickelodeon Animation and the Pinkfong Company are working together to create the content.

Pinkfong's Baby Shark originally appeared on YouTube in June of 2016 and quickly became a YouTube star. The music, which creeps into your mind and won't leave no matter what you do, has received over 10 billion views on YouTube, making it the most popular video ever.

There's no news yet on what the Baby Shark movie will contain, or how many times you'll have to hear that terrible song over the course of what we think will be 70-90 minutes.

On Tuesday, Paramount+ unveiled a slew of new family programming, including three new Spongebob Squarepants films, the first of which will be released in 2023. There will also be a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles animated film series in 2023, as well as a Transformers animated program in 2024. Dora the Explorer is also getting a revamp this year.

According to ViacomCBS Streaming's chief programming officer, over half of Paramount+ members have lately seen kids and family content, a huge increase from last year.

"As we've seen with Nickelodeon's long-standing success, the kids and family audience is incredibly loyal, and we see that on Paramount+ as well, with kids and family ranking as one of the service's strongest genres in terms of both engagement and subscriber acquisition," said Robbins in a press release.

"So, as people stick around for our series and seek out more of them, we're doubling down on giving them what they want by expanding the universes of the characters they love the most," Robbins explained.
