Do you want to spend $600 on a Spirited Away t-shirt? Loewe has your back.
Loewe, the venerable fashion business, is giving Spirited Away the luxury designer goods treatment. The brand's wares are normally pricy, so you can guarantee the Studio Ghibli ones would be as well.
Of course, Spirited Away is a famous Studio Ghibli picture. The film was a major hit when it was released in 2001, shattering box office records in Japan. So let's see what type of things Loewe imprinted Spirited Away on—and how much they cost!
A No Face tote bag in classic calfskin and suede, for example, costs 433,400 yen ($3,784), a Chihiro Amazona bag in nappa calfskin costs 531,300 yen ($4,636), and a Susuwatari calfskin wallet costs 96,800 yen ($845).
This $3,285 tote bag is stylish. Don't you think so?
Clothing is also not inexpensive, with t-shirts costing between 55,000 yen ($480) and 107,800 ($941) yen.
"Studio Ghibli's skill in developing tales is matched by a tireless attention to craft in order to bring them to life with tedious manual work," says creative director Jonathan Anderson. Such enthusiasm for the potential of craft is what we sincerely foster at Loewe, and it is here that the relationship exists."
Fashion Press takes a look inside the store.
This isn't the first time Studio Ghibli or the brand has done anything like this. Loewe collaborated with Studio Ghibli on a line of My Neighbor Totoro merchandise in 2021.
As Hachima Kikou points out, a pop-up store in Tokyo's Harajuku has been set up to advertise the collaboration. "A refurbishment of a traditional Japanese-style residence, the venue embodies the creative worlds of LOEWE and Studio Ghibli," the company claims. "Studio Ghibli's artworks bring the film's most iconic sequences to life."
