Every time Hollywood makes a "video game movie", whether it's based on an existing property or anything about the video game genre, a few Easter eggs or character sightings are slipped in. After all, we've already seen Sonic, several Street Fighter characters, and other characters in Ready Player One and Wreck-It Ralph. Thanks to 20th Century Studios' Free Guy, we'll soon have another film to go through for allusions. Free Guy, starring Ryan Reynolds, is about an NPC who finds they are in a computer game and decides to write themselves in as the hero.

With the film's release date approaching, the marketing team decided to have some fun by producing movie posters parodying popular video games and playing on some memorable (and notorious) covers.

What was left out? Super Mario 64, Mega Man for the NES, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Among Us, Minecraft, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Street Fighter II for the SNES, and DOOM! will be included.

Now all we have to do is wait for the film's release to see if these posters appear in the film, or if any video game characters appear in the backdrop!

A bank teller called Guy realizes he is a background character in an open world video game called Free City that will soon go offline.

Initial release: 11 August 2021 (Netherlands)
Director: Shawn Levy
Budget: $100–125 million
Story by: Matt Lieberman
Production Companies: Berlanti Productions; 21 Laps Entertainment; Maximum Effort; Lit Entertainment Group

Free Guy is a 2021 American science fiction action comedy film directed by Shawn Levy from a screenplay by Matt Lieberman and Zak Penn and a story by Lieberman. The film stars Ryan Reynolds, Jodie Comer, Lil Rel Howery, Utkarsh Ambudkar, Joe Keery, and Taika Waititi.

Free Guy is scheduled to be theatrically released in the United States on August 13, 2021 by 20th Century Studios. Its release had been pushed back three times from a July 2020 release date due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film received mostly positive reviews upon release.

In the open world video game Free City, Guy (Reynolds) is a non-player character (NPC) working as a bank teller. Thanks to a program developed by programmers Millie (Comer) and Keys (Keery) inserted into Free City by the publisher Antwan (Waititi), Guy becomes self-aware of his world being a video game, and takes steps to make himself the hero, creating a race against time to save the game before the developers can shut it down.
