Volkswagen uses ChatGPT on their Cars

Don't worry, Volkswagen uses ChatGPT on their Cars, it's just for Navigation Assistance, not for Self Driving
Volkswagen is making a whole reinvention of in-car entertainment by integrating ChatGPT into its IDA voice assistant, allowing drivers richer conversation functionality and deeper access to a huge AI database across various models beginning in 2024, if recent reports from both Automotive World and The EV Report are any indication.

Volkswagen Integrates ChatGPT

The German conglomerate Volkswagen has taken a leap with the integration of ChatGPT into its IDA voice assistant. This had given place to an improved system allowing drivers to keep their hands on the wheel for navigation, infotainment, and climate while getting answers from the assistant to the most general questions.

Thanks to this advanced query-capable AI assistant, it will share with you information about tourist attractions, results of sports, and even solutions to math problems. Activating it is easy: just say, "Hello IDA" or "Hello Volkswagen" (it depends on the model), or press a button on the steering wheel. This innovative feature turns the driving experience into an intuitive, more interactive journey, giving Volkswagen an edge by being one of the first automobile manufacturers to bring advanced AI capability into everyday cars.

Collaboration with Cerence

Volkswagen collaborates with Cerence-leading provider of automotive AI solutions-to integrate ChatGPT into its cars. Indeed, Cerence Chat Pro-the underpinning technology behind this integration-blends multiple sources, including ChatGPT, for accurate and highly relevant answers to a wide variety of questions. Consequently, this will make Volkswagen ready to offer such a sophisticated prompt capability in voice that goes beyond the generic set of today's voice control features. Gracing it with the ability to pass seamlessly to the cloud when the car's local system cannot satisfy a request, it enables the processing of complex, conversational questions in Cerence Chat Pro and transforms driving into a truly hands-free journey.

Privacy and Data Protection

For Volkswagen, the integration of ChatGPT is based on comprehensive data protection and protection of privacy. Conversations with the AI are processed anonymously by the system, which deletes the session data immediately in order to give maximum user data protection. Needless to say, ChatGPT has no access to vehicle data, separated by a strict fire wall from the AI functionality. Those who want even more privacy can deactivate the online voice assistant at any time via the Volkswagen app or the infotainment system's privacy settings.
