[Review] Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire

If you crave a deep story with well-developed human characters in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, you might be left wanting
This movie promises a return of the titans in a visually stunning showdown, but is it all about the spectacle, or is there some substance too? Let's find out!
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire picks up after the events of the previous film. Godzilla and Kong have settled into an uneasy truce, but a new threat emerges from the depths of the Hollow Earth. This villain, the monstrous Scar-King, enslaves Kong's kind and threatens to unleash an even bigger baddie—the legendary Titan, Shimo. Can Godzilla and Kong put aside their differences and team up to save the day?

This movie is a feast for the eyes. Director Adam Wingard throws everything he has at the screen, from mind-bending creature designs to textures you've never seen before. We're talking glowing plasma, oozing guts, and frozen meat blasts—it's a sensory overload in the best way possible. Plus, the new villain, the Gar King, is a truly terrifying force to be reckoned with.

If you thought you saw everything in the previous Monster-Verse movies, think again! The New Empire takes us even deeper into Kong's subterranean home, revealing ancient secrets and a whole new civilization of ape-like creatures. It's like Jurassic Park meets Lord of the Rings down there, with a dash of Guardians of the Galaxy thrown in for good measure.

While the monster action is top-notch, the human characters leave a bit to be desired. Rebecca Hall's Dr. Andrews takes a backseat, and the new addition, Trapper, feels a bit like a forced attempt at humor. However, there are some genuinely touching moments between Kong and his newfound family in Hollow Earth.

If you're looking for a popcorn flick with mind-blowing visuals and monster mayhem, then Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is for you! However, if you crave a deep story with well-developed human characters, you might be left wanting.

That's all for this review! Let me know in the comments what you think of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and what other monster movies you'd like to see reviewed!
