[EARLY REVIEW] X-Men '97 Animated Series

X-Men '97: A Blast From the Past with a Twist!
Hey there, comic comrades! Get ready for a mutant-sized dose of nostalgia!  X-Men '97, the sequel to the epic 90's X-Men animated series, is landing on Disney+ March 20th, 2024!  But before you dive into this new adventure, let's revisit some key moments from the original series to get you primed.

X-Men '97 Professor X
Professor X: Gone But Not Forgotten

Remember how Professor X seemed to kick the bucket in the original finale, "Graduation Day?" Well, not quite! That cranky anti-mutant Henry Gyrich blasted Xavier, frying his brainwaves. The X-Men, desperate to save their mentor, turned to Magneto (shocking, right?).  With a little telepathic help from Jean, Magneto used his powers to contact Professor X's space-faring boo, Lilandra. Turns out, her advanced Shi'ar technology could save Xavier, but only if he stayed with them in space. So, Xavier said his goodbyes and blasted off, leaving the X-Men leaderless.

X-Men '97 Magneto
Magneto: From Foe to (Shady) Friend?

With Xavier out of the picture, guess who inherits his stuff (including the X-Men school)? You guessed it, Magneto!  The trailers hint that Magneto might take a more "diplomatic" approach to mutant rights... or maybe he'll use Xavier's resources to further his own mutant-supremacist agenda.  Only time will tell!

X-Men '97 Jubilee
Jubilee's All Grown Up!

Gone are the days of trench coats and sparklers! Jubilee is officially a full-fledged X-Man. We saw her mature bravery in "Jubilee's Fairy Tale Theater," and by the finale, Professor X himself acknowledged she was ready for anything.  Expect a more seasoned Jubilee this time around.

X-Men '97 Morph
The Redemption of Morph

Remember Morph's rollercoaster journey?  From sacrificing himself to save Wolverine to being Mr. Sinister's puppet, Morph eventually found his way back to the X-Men.  Professor X's final words to him sealed the deal: "Welcome home." Look out for Morph as a core member of the X-Men team in '97.

X-Men '97 Bishop
Bishop Joins the Party

This time-traveling mutant wasn't a full-time member in the original series, but he made frequent appearances.  Given his past working with the X-Men, it makes sense for Bishop to be a main player in '97.

X-Men '97 Cable
Cable: A Baby Time Travel Paradox?

Jean's rocking a baby bump in the trailer, and you might be thinking, "Cable time!"  But hold on!  In the comics, Cable's mom is Madelyne Pryor, a clone of Jean.  For a smoother storyline, they might just make Jean the actual mama Cable this time around.  Especially since Bishop, another time traveler, is around.  Will Cable show up as a baby, or maybe even travel back in time himself? We'll have to wait and see!

X-Men '97 Apocalypse
Apocalypse: Down But Not Out

The X-Men may have trapped Apocalypse in the astral plane, but this villain is tenacious.  Don't be surprised if he finds a way to escape and wreak havoc in '97.

X-Men '97
Humanity vs. Mutants: Still a Hot Mess

Remember the anti-mutant riots at the end of the original series?  Yeah, things haven't exactly improved.  With Professor X gone and tensions high, the mutant/human relationship might be at an all-time low.
