Toyota's EV Future Is Previewed by the Toyota bZ Compact SUV Concept

Toyota is eager to develop its "beyond zero" electric car sub-brand, and this compact EV crossover prototype appears to be production-ready
After years of waiting, Toyota eventually entered the electric car market with the bZ4X EV crossover, which was developed in tandem with the Subaru Solterra. Following that, Toyota is moving forward with plans for a whole bZ-branded range of EVs. The next car in the bZ range will most likely be a compact crossover, which Toyota showed today at the Los Angeles Auto Show with the adorably called bZ Compact SUV concept shown above.
Toyota claims that the bZ Compact SUV concept previews an EV that will be "exhilarating to drive," as part of the company's "Beyond Zero" future generation of EVs (thus, "bZ"). Toyota claims that the form of this bZ concept is primarily about aerodynamics, with short overhangs and a streamlined windscreen that help it achieve a low drag coefficient. Designers also pushed the wheels as far as they could to the corners for an aggressive attitude. While there are some similarities to the larger bZ4X, this concept highlights the next step of the design characteristics we've seen on the previously released Toyota Crown and the just-debuted-today 2023 Toyota Prius, particularly in the front end.
With EVs, sustainability is the name of the game, and Toyota's designers took that to heart while designing the inside of this concept car. It's defined as edgy and upscale, with most surfaces made of recycled or sustainably produced materials. The chairs, for example, are constructed of both plant-based and recyclable materials.

The technology is also present. Engineers installed Yui, a virtual in-car helper. This assistant responds to voice orders from the driver and passengers by using both lighting and auditory signals.
Toyota has not stated whether or not this concept is intended for production, but considering the production-style detailing on this car and the level of interest in the small electric crossover category, we believe it is a safe bet. Toyota plans to have 30 all-electric vehicles on the market globally shortly, so we may see the production version of this bZ sooner rather than later.
