Release of the PS6 is predicted to occur after 2027 in a Sony document
The PS6 is expected to be released after 2027, according to a recently made public, partially redacted whitepaper from Sony. The once-secret document is now out to the public for review as part of the UK's Competition and Markets Authority's (CMA) ongoing inquiry into the proposed Microsoft Activision merger, which Sony claimed it "welcomes" back in September.
PS5 appears to have a lifespan of at least seven years.
The complete text of the paper is pretty substantial, coming in at about 22 pages, but the first line on Page 8 mentions that Sony says Microsoft "offered to continue making Activision's games available on PlayStation only until 2027."
It would have lost access to Call of Duty and other Activision games by the time SIE unveiled the next generation of its PlayStation platform (which is anticipated to happen around [redacted]), leaving it very susceptible to customer switching and a consequent decline in its competitiveness.
Although Sony has withheld the precise year of the PS6's debut, a quick calculation based on these two facts reveals that the PS6 won't be available until beyond 2027.
The PlayStation 5 would thus appear to have a healthy lifetime of at least seven years. Given that the PS5 debuted seven years after the PS4, the PS6's arrival in 2027 would be expected.
