Through Nebula's Christmas present to Rocket, the Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special provided payback for an Avengers: Infinity War joke

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special paid off a long-running joke from Avengers: Infinity War by giving Rocket Bucky's bionic limb. Rocket Raccoon and Bucky Barnes first met in Avengers: Infinity War, with Rocket asking Bucky how much he would accept for the latter's pistol. Rocket then asked the Winter Soldier how much he would pay for his renowned bionic arm after Bucky responded that it was not for sale.
Despite being a one-time joke to capitalize on the incredible character interactions in Avengers: Infinity War, this joke gets paid off in the Guardians Holiday Special with other MCU easter eggs, leaving fans to wonder how Nebula managed to gift Rocket Bucky's arm. While the arm is most likely a fake, there are some bizarre possibilities for how Nebula may have obtained the genuine thing in The Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special via her Avengers: Endgame connections. Regardless, the present is just a clever method of resolving a long-running MCU joke, and it has no bearing on Bucky's MCU destiny.
Is Bucky's Arm Nebula Really Giving Rocket? How could she possibly have gotten it?!
The major question following this moment in Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special is whether or not it is Bucky's true arm. While it's doubtful, there are a few ways Nebula may have gotten it. To begin, Bucky has had two very strong bionic arms in the MCU, one manufactured by Hydra and the other by the Wakandans. This means that Bucky could theoretically alter his arm. Furthermore, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier determined that the Wakandans have a failsafe in Bucky's vibranium arm that allows them to simply disable it.
Nebula might have pulled some strings and obtained Bucky's genuine arm during the five-year time leap between Infinity War and Endgame, with the surviving Avengers, including Okoye. The Wakandans could simply create a substitute with superior skills. Despite this, the chance is, to put it mildly, nil. Bucky's arm, which was given to Rocket, is most likely a replica. Nebula could have easily requested her newfound allies to manufacture a flawless clone of Bucky's arm, avoiding the embarrassment of actually stealing the genuine thing for a Christmas gift, according to the linkages established in Avengers: Endgame.
The perfect Infinity War payoff is Nebula giving Rocket Bucky's arm
Whether or not Rocket acquired Bucky's actual arm, the scenario works best as a reward for Avengers: Infinity War's joke. The interactions between the previously diverse characters were one of the most adored portions of Infinity War, and it is widely considered as one of the MCU's greatest efforts. Bucky was mostly relegated to the more serious, realistic tone of the Captain America series prior to Captain America: Civil War. Bucky in Infinity War, on the other hand, was able to embrace the more bizarre features of the MCU's vast cosmos.
Bucky's interactions with Rocket exemplify this, from scooping the raccoon up and spinning in a circle to resist Thanos' outriders to rebuking his efforts to grab his arm. The sequence pays off a four-year-old joke, with Infinity War arriving in 2018 and Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special arriving in 2022. This not only provides for a beautiful exchange between Nebula and Rocket, but it also demonstrates the MCU's ongoing attempts to stay united in the greatest ways.
Bucky's arm is still present in the MCU's future
The future of the MCU is one of the key reasons why the limb in the Guardians Holiday Special is unlikely to be Bucky's genuine arm. Marvel Studios released the official roster for their next Thunderbolts feature during the D23 2022 event. This statement was accompanied by concept images of the squad, with Bucky front and center, displaying both his human and bionic limbs. Bucky's main weapon in the MCU has been the latter, among other things like his super soldier abilities, and he will undoubtedly use it to its maximum extent in Thunderbolts.That being said, it increases the likelihood that Nebula's present in The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is a duplicate, acting as a pleasant payoff to an old MCU joke.
