You've been there and done that; now it's time to switch things up
You'll probably go through a five-ish year phase in your life when you'll be invited to a bachelor or bachelorette party apparently every few months. It'll be a Groundhog Day-style situation, with you waking up at your local airport every morning, waiting at the gate to travel to Nashville, Miami, or Las Vegas. You promise yourself that when it's your turn to bring your pals away for the weekend, you'll blow their minds by taking them somewhere they've never gone before. But where exactly?
Here are eight destinations to host your bachelor or bachelorette party that aren't the usual suspects but will provide your group with an unforgettable experience.
Portland, Maine
I'm sure when you think of party locations, Portland, Maine isn't the first place that comes to mind. But that doesn't mean it can't be a terrific place for your bachelor or bachelorette party. Portland not only has an exciting nightlife scene, but it also has possibilities to relax on the beach, go on a wine tour, or face the elements while whitewater rafting. When you have one of the world's oldest municipal pipe organs, who needs Penn and Teller?
Tannersville, Pennsylvania
Tannersville is an excellent place for bachelor and bachelorette parties wishing to have a good time on a budget. It is located in a region of Pennsylvania known colloquially as "the Poconos." It's a ski town in the winter and an outdoor activity town in the summer, making it a wonderful alternative for people looking for a big condo rather than cramming into a cramped hotel room.
Tannersville has an abundance of hotel options with outside space, making barbecue not only a possible pleasant group activity, but also a cost-cutting tool. Book a few excursions, such as ziplining or a brewery tour, and you'll be well on your way to a fantastic celebration.
Gulf Shores, Alabama
Mr. 3-0-5 is well-known, but have you heard of Mr. 2-5-1? You most likely haven't because I made him up. But this isn't because he doesn't deserve to be alive. Gulf Shores is widely regarded as one of Alabama's most beautiful beaches, and it welcomes bachelor and bachelorette parties of any size or attitude. Looking to simply relax and enjoy the beach? That is a possibility. Looking to spend the day drinking and crushing the groom-to-be at mini-golf? No problem. Looking to overcome your fear of heights and go on that helicopter trip you've always wanted to go on? In Gulf Shores, Alabama, confront your anxieties.
San Juan Islands, Washington
You'll have to go to Vegas if you want to see tigers at your bachelor or bachelorette party. However, if you want to view orcas, book your San Juan Islands Airbnb immediately. If swimming with wild orcas isn't your style, alternative activities include kayaking, hiking, and island bike trips. The San Juan Islands are a terrific destination to celebrate the end of your single life, thanks to a thriving restaurant scene and good entertainment alternatives.
Lake Geneva, Wisconsin
I wouldn't blame you if the idea of hosting your bachelor or bachelorette party in Wisconsin never occurred to you—but I'm here to tell you why it should. Lake Geneva is a lovely village on, you guessed it, Lake Geneva that has become a popular Midwest vacation destination. Lake Geneva's entertainment offerings include boating, a collection of ice castles, and the Tristan Crist Magic Theater, which has a Michelin star.
Boulder, Colorado
The most well-known city on this list, its participation serves as a reminder that well-known destinations are well-known for a reason: they're entertaining! Boulder is an excellent choice for camping, glamping, or anything in between. Boulder is a jack-of-all-trades city, with activities such as outdoor fun, beautiful drives, and a plethora of breweries. If you decide to combine those final two activities, make sure you have a designated driver.
Roswell, New Mexico
Roswell, New Mexico, was the site of a reported UFO event in 1947. became largely regarded as the United States' immigrant capital. Roswell, Georgia, is a terrific off-the-beaten-path place for an off-the-beaten-path bachelor or bachelorette party. The International UFO Museum and Research Center, the Roswell UFO Spacewalk, and some good old-fashioned alien-themed laser tag are among the activities available.
Cooperstown, New York
Cooperstown, famous for being the home of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, has a lot to offer any party of bachelors or bachelorettes. A slew of bed and breakfasts, along with the famed Ommegang Brewery, provide for an excellent weekend of drinking and relaxing with your crew.
