Oscar Isaac's Contract with Marvel will ends after Moon Knight

Oscar Isaac's Marvel contract expires with the release of Moon Knight. The Star Wars actor isn't required by contract to return to the MCU, but it doesn't mean he won't
Moon Knight, Marvel's latest streaming program, is just six episodes long, and while everyone expects the character to appear and clash with Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Ant-Man, and Spider-Man, there's no assurance it will happen.

Moon Knight star Oscar Isaac said in a Variety feature that, unlike many of the performers who helped launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he does not have a long-term deal to continue appearing in the films or series. "I had heard of the golden handcuffs," Isaac told the trade (with a "nervous chuckle.") "That was something I was apprehensive about." And, thankfully, we've all decided that this [program] will be our primary emphasis. This is the plot. And if there is a future, I believe it all relies on how much people enjoy it, how much they want to see more of it, and whether we can find a narrative worth telling."

Reading between the lines, it's not that Isaac doesn't want to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for further projects, nor is that comment a guarantee that it hasn't already been arranged. Plus, let's be honest, it's virtually probably going to happen. It's only an acknowledgement that the Star Wars actor joined up for Moon Knight on his own terms.

"Because I wasn't intentionally wanting to go back into anything this huge, I was in a position to say, 'This is how I see it, and if you guys don't see it that way, that's absolutely alright, but maybe it's not the right match,'" Isaac explained. "As a result, I wasn't worried of doing the incorrect thing."

This news feels almost predictable. Maybe it's just me, but Oscar Isaac as Moon Knight has always struck me as odd. He's a terrific, bankable actor who is more than capable of handling the part, but after seeing him in Star Wars, a Disney+ program seems almost too little for him to make a major Marvel statement. Other major performers who joined the universe—names like Cate Blanchett and Kurt Russell spring to mind—did so in a movie and then left. Isaac has that type of impression of him, and if Marvel wants to continue, it'll have to do it on a case-by-case basis.
