Why not play a roles based on Videogames and in both DC and Marvel?
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Henry Cavill wants to play a modernized Captain Britain.
Henry Cavill, the actor who plays Superman, has expressed interest in joining the MCU, suggesting that a modernized Captain Britain would be "a lot of fun" to play.
Henry Cavill discusses his desire to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, possibly as a modernized Captain Britain. Since 2013's Man of Steel, the Englishman has played Superman in the DCEU, reprising the character in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and both edits of Justice League. Cavill's version of the character appears to be being deemphasized in DC's future plans, following their virtual abandonment of an MCU-esque chronology following the poor reception of Joss Whedon's Justice League film, and a proposed Michael B. Jordan-led Superman film from writer Ta-Nehisi Coates is on the way. Meanwhile, Cavill's focus has shifted elsewhere, with recent action parts in Mission Impossible: Fallout and Enola Holmes.
When asked if he would contemplate jumping from DC to Marvel in an interview with THR, Cavill first emphasizes that he would not consider playing an MCU character previously portrayed by another actor. However, he has seen fan-casts of himself as Captain Britain and says portraying him "would be tons of fun." Comparing the potential role to his trans-Atlantic counterpart, Cavill would like to modernize the character in the same manner Marvel did with Evans' Captain America:
I’m never going to say a Marvel character that is already being played by someone else […] because everyone’s doing such an amazing job. However, I have the internet and I have seen the various rumors about Captain Britain and that would be loads of fun to do a cool, modernized version of that — like the way they modernized Captain America. There’s something fun about that, and I do love being British.
For the time being, Cavill's potential with Marvel is purely hypothetical, as he may not be finished with the DC world. Even with the Jordan project, the actor hinted earlier this week that he isn't done playing Superman and would welcome the chance to continue. Along with the MCU, Cavill has indicated interest in the Bond franchise, but he'd rather be the antagonist than the titular spy.
Fans of both the actor and the MCU will be ecstatic at the idea of the former Superman taking on the role of Captain Britain. In the ever-expanding canon of Marvel's Phase 4, there's plenty of potential for the hero to be modernized. Psylocke, Braddock's comic book sister, was a major part of the X-Men in the 1990s, and with the MCU edging closer to recreating the popular squad originally owned by Fox, the British superhero might make his impact. Marvel's future plans span the next decade, and many of their later projects are still under wraps, so it wouldn't be out of the question for Cavill to one day play a more-contemporary Captain Britain in an MCU film or program.
Captain Britain (Brian Braddock) is a fictional superhero appearing in British and American comic books published by Marvel Comics.[1] He first appeared in Captain Britain Weekly #1 (October 1976), the beginning of a serial best-remembered for runs by writer Chris Claremont, artist Alan Davis, and writer Alan Moore.
The character was initially intended exclusively for the British comics market. Endowed with extraordinary powers by the legendary magician Merlyn and his daughter Roma, Captain Britain is assigned to uphold the laws of Britain.
