This season deepens the lore and gameplay experience while setting the stage for future updates in 2025.
Diablo 4 Season 8, titled "Belial's Return," launched on April 29, 2025, globally across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The season centers on the return of Belial, the Lord of Lies, a major antagonist who spreads deception and chaos throughout Sanctuary. Players embark on a new seasonal questline called "Lord of Lies," starting by speaking with a Stranger NPC in Kyovashad city after completing the base game campaign and creating a seasonal character.

Key features in Season 8 include a new seasonal story and events, the introduction of Boss Powers, a new gameplay mechanic, and an endgame boss overhaul. Notable bosses like Duriel, Gregoire, Lord Zir, and Beast in the Ice have received updates, while Belial, the season's titular boss, has been made more challenging than in the PTR.

Season 8 also brings new Legendary and Unique items, for which players earn reputation by defeating apparitions and bosses, which can be exchanged for long-forgotten caches containing uncommon items like Resplendent Spark and Hoard Keys. The battle pass system has been revamped into the Reliquary system, divided into four tracks: Belial's Return (free cosmetics), Weapons (premium weapon skins), Pets (free pets and companions), and Armor (premium armor skins).

Quality of Life and Balance Updates have been added, with minor buffs to classes such as Barbarian, improvements to Party Finder, and quick teleport to party members. Conduit shrines have been temporarily disabled for rework due to player feedback on their reduced usefulness.

Season 8 features cosmetics inspired by the manga/anime Berserk, allowing players to cosplay characters from that series. Completing the Season Journey rewards players with a new companion, Iris, a hairless cat with unsettling eyes.

Season 8 is expected to run until July 2025, when Season 9, titled "Sins of the Horadrim," will begin. This season deepens the lore and gameplay experience while setting the stage for future updates in 2025.
